Cameron Bickley is a multimedia personality who serves as the voice of the weekly podcast, The Sample. The podcast features popular songs from all genres that showcase sampled music and provides an educational aspect along with some engaging music trivia. Through The Sample, listeners are made aware of a song’s inspiration, music trivia, and other current information surrounding the artist and song.
If a fan wants to get to know an artist, Cam is sure to provide the right amount of information in the fastest way. According to Cam, many podcasts today are lengthy, thus dragging and time-consuming. He observes that many listeners prefer sources that give information immediately. “Many podcasts feature hosts that sit and talk about irrelevant information for 50 minutes and then try to pack it all into 10 minutes toward the end,” he explained. So he calibrates his reviews and discussions to make the 10-minute mark.
Cam does not fall short of song diversity. He does not gravitate toward a specific genre; instead, he caters to every possible musical style. In The Sample, Cam features songs ranging from soul, funk, r&b, house, hip hop, etc.
His expertise and natural comedic approach toward podcasting gave him recognition as one of Spotify’s Top 100 Music Podcasts in America. In the same platform, he topped the charts in many countries, including Germany, Great Britain, and Canada. And his podcast has been played by listeners from 196+ countries and downloaded over 200,000 times. In due course, Cam aims to work with and interview industry professionals like Drake, Brent Faiyaz, and many more.
Prior to this success, Cam came from a professional lane remarkably different from his current career. He served in the Air Force for six years, where he worked as a Space Systems Operator. After a while, Cam felt that the military force wasn’t really for him. He knew that he always had an instinct for comedy and entertainment. So he decided to take that path, starting it with a major in Digital Media Production at Florida State University.
Now a full-time student and a podcaster, the Alabama-native is building his path to stardom. He takes to social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok to post his sketch comedy and voiceovers. As of today, the content he posted has over 5 million views in total. “I feel that my creativity helps me create content for people to enjoy. I feel as though the music and entertainment niches will really enjoy my content since it is tailored more to them,” said Bickley. He is also pursuing a career in portrait photography and videography, primarily using YouTube to showcase his creations.
The Sample is Cam’s most prosperous venture yet. He comes up with programs that keep listeners hooked until the last second. Recently, he dropped a new podcast about C.R.E.A.M by Wu Tang Clan as part of his regular segment called Flashback Friday. The segment conjures music from the ’90s and earlier that contain samples that the casual music consumer wouldn’t catch. For Cam, it is essential to revisit the songs of the past to make sense of the evolution of the songs today.
Among the other songs featured in his podcast are “Get Money” by Junior M.A.F.I.A., “Mannequin” by Pop Smoke, “Go Crazy” by Chris Brown and Young Thug, and many more. Cam’s episodic releases breathe truth and meaning to many songs in the music industry—besting his competitors inside and outside the country. For more of The Sample, visit their website.
