Even as a five-year-old, Barbara Boller already saw herself one day becoming a model. She knew so little about the challenges in the modeling industry, and all that she was concerned about growing up was that she was not tall and skinny enough to actually make it. Now that she is a rising model, she has come to understand that she has to be strong enough to defy the industry standards and make a name for herself.
Standing at five feet and seven inches only, Barbara felt that she lacked the height to even be considered in a modeling project. She has always been skinny, but even as she started to model, some people would still comment on her need to lose some more weight. It was only then that she fully realized one needs to be mentally and emotionally strong to overcome the demands of the industry. For some, Barbara is already perfect as she is yet for others, her legs are not as long as they ought to be or that her overall physique needs trimming.
“It’s just a crazy world that you need to learn how to deal with and I strongly believe that the best way to do it in a healthy and more pleasant way is to be surrounded by people that really believe in you and trust that you can do it. People that just push you to the clients and say that you are the good one and that they should try to hire you,” Barbara reveals.
As she was growing up, the Brazilian model was strongly influenced by her mother’s love for fashion and makeup. When no one was looking, she would put on her mother’s clothes, use her makeup, and model in front of the mirror. While she would doubt her ability to make it in the industry, one of her aunts always believed she would one day become a top model.
Barbara admits that the modeling and fashion industries demand so much from their talents. But because she made a choice to pursue her dream, Barbara is prepared to combat any form of obstacle that gets in her way. By maintaining a positive attitude, working hard, and persevering, she believes that she will one day be recognized as one of the world’s top models.
Interestingly, modeling isn’t Barbara’s only bread and butter. She has a Master’s Degree in International Marketing and Consumer Behavior. While in college, she opened a marketing consultancy business, but when she moved to Mexico, she decided to focus completely on modeling and she closed the company. Over the years, she has lived in China, Canada, Mexico, and she is now in Miami and also does a lot of work in Colombia.
However, in 2019, she decided to dive back into business, and she jumped into 2 businesses in NYC as a business partner to a friend whom she used to take Chinese classes with back in 2010. Now with more experience, confidence, and knowledge, she is working on setting up her own label.
Aside from her modeling and business ventures, she is also taking acting classes. As an actress, she has been in a lot of TV commercials and music videos, like videos for Prince Royce and Ricky Martin. She is also taking voice classes since the challenge in the industry now is that one has to be a full entertainer.
