Jamie Campbell Bower, known for her role as Vecna in Stranger Things and as Caius in Twilight, discusses his struggles with addiction and mental health challenges in the past. He shares how these experiences have helped him grow as an individual today.

In a thread on Twitter, he said that years before now, he battled addiction and at some point even got admitted to a hospital.

Bower’s post read: “12 and a half years ago I was in active addiction. Hurting myself and those around me who I loved the most. It got so bad that eventually I ended up in a hospital for mental health. I am now 7 ½ years clean and sober. I have made many mistakes in my life…”

He said that he is currently in a good place and grateful for reaching the milestone ahead.

“But each day is a chance to start again,” Bower said. “Atone for mistakes and grow. For anyone who wakes up thinking ‘oh God not again’ I promise you there’s a way. I’m so grateful to be where I am. I’m so grateful to be where I am. I’m so grateful to be sober. I’m so grateful to be. Remember, we are all works in progress.”

Bower Receives Backing

But this was not the first time Bower ever mentioned the issue. In “It Gets Better,” his 2019 song which he recorded with his band Counterfeit, cites mental health and addiction. Lyrics include, “If you’ve seen the bottom, if you’ve given up/Believe me, my sister, there is hope for us.”
