At first glance, everything about rap artist Kortny De1 stands out. From the red hot dreadlocks to the flashy get-up, he has what it takes to be a real head-turner. But first impressions aren’t all that make the artist unique. A master at his craft, Kortny has what it takes to become an R&B and hip-hop music aficionado worth anyone’s valuable time.
A master of tracks, including hits like “Wet Wash,” “Finesse,” “15,” “B.L.A.C.K.,” “End Game,” “War,” “Rear View,” and “Undisputed,” the hip-hop musician has created a strong portfolio of songs that have helped him grow a strong following in record time. Since launching his music on Spotify this year amid the growing pandemic, Kortny De1 has amassed tens of thousands of streams and averaged over seven thousand regular listeners a month on the streaming platform.
Kortny’s groovy R&B track “Finesse,” has picked up over 44,000 listens and is continually growing. He has also released multiple music videos, including the one for his tracks entitled “Call Triple A,” “High Pleasures,” and his recently launched single “Wet Wash.”
Born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Kortny De1 would grow up with a single mother. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia, when the artist turned six years old. He graduated from Westlake High School in 2012 and attended Clayton State University. Growing up, Kortny always had an evident love for music. He started playing the drums at church at the age of four and would later learn how to play the trumpet and guitar. But some time in high school, he discovered his wheelhouse was around rap, hip-hop, and R&B music. He listened to artists like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Drake, Michael Jackson, Luther Vandross, Beyonce, Jill Scott, Justin Timberlake, Sade, Marvin Gaye, the Notorious B.I.G., Blackstreet, and R. Kelly.
Later, Kortny De1 would get into music recording and set up a fully functional home recording system. He started taking on clients who hired him to do mixing and producing jobs. Kortny would later name his business One Nation and applied all the entrepreneurial lessons he learned from his mother and selling items back in school like candy and CDs.
Kortny would later network with the right people, meeting “The Baddie Manager ” @Nikkijzo, who has made a name for herself managing various artists in the entertainment industry through her company Breakin All the Rulez. The musician would also start collaborating with other entertainment companies, including Legacy Entertainment.
Apart from his music, Kortny De1 also uses his platform to inspire people to work hard and achieve their goals, most especially health-wise. A previously obese kid, the artist would shed over a hundred pounds after two years of working out and achieve the body that would give him the confidence to stand out.
Today, Kortny takes his music seriously and hopes to turn his passion into a full-fledged profession.
