Every so often, music circles welcome a newcomer with an incredible story about overcoming trials to find a way back to the road of music success. One such story is that of R&B singer Bobby Smith Jr.
Bobby, otherwise known by his stage name iBrazee, is an artist that hails from the Eastern Shore. He’s always had a love for music. Unfortunately, life wasn’t easy for him. So he went from struggle to struggle at many points in his journey. His greatest challenge was spending twenty years incarcerated in prison, with six of those years locked up in solitary confinement. After coming out of incarceration, getting back to the normal rhythm of life was a hard battle, but iBrazee always persevered.
iBrazee’s music mostly tells the story of the challenges he has faced in life. He hopes that through his story and music, he can inspire his listeners and supporters to keep persevering through the problems they face. “I want to give them motivation,” says iBrazee. “I want to tell the story they may not know how to speak on.”
What makes iBrazee’s music stand out is that it’s raw and unfiltered music. iBrazee bears all truth on his personal experiences and the stories of other people close to the artist as well. Through his songs, he narrates the lives of others for them like a platform that gives them a chance to be heard.
iBrazee’s goal through his music is to make people feel something. His songs are more than information and events. He tells all, including the emotions, doubts, and fears in hopes that it would show his audience the emotional rollercoaster of a life filled with challenges. iBrazee hopes that his honesty and authenticity would speak to audiences in a way that would motivate them to push past the storms of life.
iBrazee’s influences come from a variety of different genres. He’s drawn to how ballads touch the heart, loves the rhythm and tone that R&B songs have, and grooves to the beat of pop music. He takes his enthusiasm for the three and blends it into one sound that he can now call his own. His sound builds on the honesty of his songs, bringing to life the tale of how iBrazee overcame his struggles.
Reflecting on the time he has missed from being in prison, iBrazee has all the reason in the world to work hard on his music and build a name for himself. Back to square one, his number 1 motivation is to provide for his family and make up for time lost. “I hope to see myself on top. Right now, this is the beginning of iBrazee, and it’s only going to get better.” iBrazee confidently shares.
Recently, iBrazee released the first music video to his song entitled “Forgive Me.” W.H.Y N.O.T Productions and Director Fif Taratino helped make the video possible. The song is a soulful rendition that speaks on redemption made possible through forgiveness. The team shot most of the music video’s scenes during the quarantine period.
