From Jessica Sanchez in American Idol to Marcelito Pomoy performing on America’s Got Talent: Champions, many great singers have one thing in common: Filipino roots. And the reality is, Filipino singers have proven they can perform like no other, even on the international stage. Now, there is a rising Filipino American artist that deserves international attention, and she’s only thirteen–Jenelle Rose.
Born in the Philippines and living in Maine, Jenelle naturally found her passion for music. In her hometown, people love to sing on birthdays, fiestas, and whatever occasion there is. Jenelle herself grew up taking pride in her Filipino roots and nurturing her talent in singing. She grew up singing on the karaoke machine, a quintessential party piece for Filipino parties. Because of her incredible singing prowess on the karaoke, she was known by many as the “Videoke Princess.”
This year, she released her first single, “Text Me,” available in all digital stores nationwide. Sonically, her music is a catchy brand of bedroom pop that sounds as if she’s singing from a karaoke machine. It’s a track filled with propulsive rhythms, with her sharp, undulating vocals drawing the listener to listen more.
One of the youngest singer-songwriters in the Philippines, she is set to release her newest single, “F4tal Fe3lings,” soon. She is on her way to making more music.
Besides singing, Jenelle is a budding entrepreneur and fashionista selling her hair fashion on Etsy and Facebook. Her inventiveness was recognized on national TV. She was among the top 3 inventors in Big Gig Junior featured in Fox News USA and Greenlight Maine Show. This proves that Jenelle is not only musically gifted; she is also intelligent. Moreover, she is an all-around achiever. In 2019, she became Miss Maine Sweetheart JR Teen, and she currently holds the title as Miss Maine Sweetheart Ambassador 2020. Her purpose as a beauty queen reflects in her heart to help.
With the COVID-19 outbreak affecting the entire world, one country that is profoundly affected is the Philippines. Although she lives in Maine, Jenelle never forgets to look back at where she came from and help in any way that she can. She set up a fundraiser on Facebook to help people from her hometown suffering from the pandemic.
Aside from that, she is also raising awareness on anti-bullying through The Crown CARES (Creating Respectful Environment in School and our Community) platform. Jenelle has a state pageant coming up, USA National Miss Maine Pageant, this coming September. Wish her luck!
Jenelle has shown that even at her young age, she can do anything, from inventing, becoming an entrepreneur, raising awareness against bullying, fundraising amid a pandemic, to making music. She is on her way to becoming the next big thing. One thing is certain—the future ahead is bright for Jenelle Rose.
