Music has been a tool for bringing people together and connecting different parts of the world. Many talented people have also leveraged the power of music to build a name for themselves and impact people globally. Devin Roy is one of the artists stepping on the stage and working hard to gain global traction in the music world.
The 28-year-old New York native made his debut in the music scene in the summer of 2020 with his single, “M.A.N.” The track was his way of introducing himself as an artist and his music style to the world. He made quite a striking impression by talking about mental health and learning how to grow as a man. Audiences who took note of his artistry have seen him as a society-conscious artist, which earned him a cult following right off the bat.
As a follow-up to his debut single, Devin Roy released other records titled “Blessings” and “A Bear Called Papa,” which explores the turbulent relationships he has been in and the struggles of dealing with the loss of his best friend, respectively. He recently released his debut album, underneath (The Grey Sky), in which he shows a deeper side to who he is as an artist and a person trying to find his way in the world.
With no specific audience in mind, Devin Roy makes music because he enjoys and wants people to enjoy his music naturally and organically. He does not create music with a particular audience in mind. He believes that music should be free-flowing and have nothing attached to the process.
“I focus on the art and write for everyone and anyone who enjoys what I create,” he said.
underneath (The Grey Sky) is a project that has been in the works for a while before Devin even decided to make it an album. One of the tracks on the album, “Flint Stone,” was recorded in 2018, before he even released his debut single “M.A.N.” Another song, “flamingo,” was written five years ago, but he never got around to recording it. Many of the other songs on the album such as “Lost Blessings,” “WHOAMi,” and “Lois Lane” were written and recorded last year shortly after he decided he was going to build a proper album.
Sharing this album with the world is one of the things that gives him joy, and he hopes that the world gets to connect with him on a deeper level through those songs. He showcased his full skill armory with his blend of different sounds in one body of work. According to Hype Off Life, “Devin stands out with his content backed by dope flows, and this project will be one that people will talk about.”
His goal for the next few years is to have numerous bodies of work out for his fans and audience to enjoy. “I see myself creating with the same principles as I do today while being able to stand on an even larger catalog of growth. I look forward to the stories I haven’t written yet. It’s a different feeling now. I climbed my first mountain, and now I have a much clearer view of that next peak. I’m ready for that journey,” Devin said.
