Tim’s Inspiration
Tim received his first tattoo when he was 17 years old. “I watched the guy do it and thought, man, I could do better than that,” he adds. He stated that just seeing the tattooist is what got him interested in tattooing. And with that, his hunt for another creative outlet, as well as a lifelong career, was gone.
Tim looked out for tattoo artists in the area to assist him in his training, but there were few available. Soon after, he ordered some tattoo supplies from a tattoo magazine and began practicing on a few buddies. Although it was not the proper manner, it got him in the door enough to show some of his work to his future mentor and teacher, Nick McCarty, who taught him the sacred art of tattooing the proper way.
Tim then set out to master all of the skills required to use the human body as a canvas. His work flows naturally on a person’s body. It’s all about connecting and designing that makes it work for him. “You’re learning anatomy, the art and history of tattooing, and how artworks with anatomy… like how it does stain the dermis, and how long does it last?” he says. “You have to be taught something for years to properly understand it.”
Starting of Career
Beck began his professional tattoo career in 1998 when he apprenticed with Nick McCarty in Pekin, Illinois. From there, he worked in Chicago from 2001 to 2004 before making his Peoria debut shortly after. Beck established his firm in two tiny locations, the first on Prospect Road and the second at Bradley University, before settling in at Avanti’s Square near Northwoods Mall in 2008.
When it comes to his education, Tim has left no stone unturned. He began his journey by completing a full, thorough apprenticeship in the field. He then attended seminars and continued his education on sterile fields, cross-contamination, and blood-borne and air-borne pathogens. As a result of his dedication to learning, Tim is now a highly skilled and knowledgeable technician who is able to provide quality care for his patients. In addition to his technical expertise, Tim is also a compassionate individual who genuinely cares about the well-being of his patients.
