Ariana DeBose opened the ceremony by saying, “Broadway’s back, baby. And she’s waiting for you.”
This year’s Tony Awards will be broadcasted on Sunday night and celebrate the best of Broadway. After three years of delay, this event celebrates its 75th year at Radio City Music Hall.
With DeBose as host, the awards show conducts the first-ever return to its original month and venue since before the pandemic. It also marks the first time in Tony Awards history that it broadcast live coast-to-coast.
The ceremony was aired on CBS, and Paramount+ – coverage will be split.
Six for Best Costume Design and Best Original Score of a Musical and MJ for Best Sound Design and Best Lighting Design of a Musical are featured on the Paramount+ hour.
Meanwhile, the CBS hour opened with a performance by DeBose, who flaunted her skills in current and past musical numbers.
