For rising artist YB Simmons, watching his brother’s work in the music industry drove him to work towards similar success from a young age. Today, he has been awarded the opportunity to showcase his talent, courtesy of his older brother, Chadd Black.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, YB Simmons is a twenty-two-year-old who has recently set out on his journey to make it as an artist & lyricist. Simmons is a family-oriented individual and holds a close-knit relationship with his parents and three brothers. Growing up, he and his family shared a love for music, shaping their plans for a career in the industry.
Simmons’ talents were evident even as a child. He would grow up and create music for the fun of it, providing friends and family with a glimpse of his potential. As he matured, Simmons started using music as an outlet where he could release his inner thoughts, unkempt emotions, and secret pain. While most gifted individuals would gradually lose their passion, Simmons held on to music and instead honed his skills.
When the pandemic reached American shores, YB Simmons was already pursuing college. As the urgency of the situation forced cities to go on lockdown, he took the opportunity to actively polish his skills. With a lot of time on his hands, Simmons developed his gift and sharpened his craft, releasing a few songs to see how the general audience would respond. Fortunately, his works were met with positive reviews.
As Simmons worked on his craft, his brother observed his progress. A well-known figure in several industries, including music, business, and entertainment, Chadd Black has worked as a strategic manager for several major corporations and recently launched a talent agency to provide local artists with an opportunity to showcase their gifts. Over the years, Chadd watched as Simmons worked diligently on his own. Sensing that his brother was ready, Chadd offered his name and connections to help him get on the right track for his music career.
Although being family would usually yield certain advantages, Chadd wanted to make sure that Simmons would not be over-reliant on their relation and strive towards making it through his own hard work. His decision paid off, and when offered, YB Simmons took the opportunity in a heartbeat.
Having established his record label Control Freek Records, Chadd wanted to create an atmosphere that could give artists more creative freedom and percentages at the back end. As the first signing of Control Freek, the rising artist worked quickly to get his name out there. He recently released a track titled ‘Downfall’ on his 22nd birthday. He is set to release his first official album sometime this year.
YB Simmons has his sights on becoming a breakout music star where he can use his platform to push his message. “You don’t have to live a life bottled up,” he explained, “It’s okay to find release in using your gifts.” Additionally, the rising artist hopes to tour internationally once the crisis has passed.
