While most teenagers were navigating the typical high school experience, Michella Filipowitz embarked on an extraordinary adventure at the age of 15. She left her home and family behind, heading to Paris with dreams of making it big in the modeling world.

“I just took off without saying goodbye,” Michella recalls with a smile. “When my mother called me a couple of weeks later, I told her she was welcome to visit, but I wasn’t coming back.”

In the glamorous yet demanding realm of Parisian fashion, Michella encountered a series of formidable challenges. “I was thrown into a world I wasn’t ready for,” she admits. “I wished for someone to lean on, but everyone around me seemed indifferent.”

As Michella wrestled with feelings of loneliness and disenchantment, she found herself increasingly at odds with the industry’s high expectations. The cold reception from her agent only added to her sense of isolation.

At 17, Michella made a pivotal decision to shift her focus from modeling to art. Relocating to London, she joined HUS Gallery and discovered her passion for art dealing. This new career path allowed her to delve into the fascinating stories behind various artworks, offering a stark contrast to her previous experiences.

“Art dealing introduced me to a new dimension,” she says. “Each piece of art has a narrative, and I was enthralled by the concept of bringing a slice of someone’s life into the homes of others.”

Today, based in Sydney, Michella thrives as a private art dealer, serving clients from around the world. Despite the apparent ease of her transition from a young model to an art expert, her journey has been marked by significant personal challenges and a steadfast resolve.

At 23, Michella’s life took another turn when she became a single mother after her son, Benjamin, was diagnosed with autism. “Becoming a mother and dealing with my son’s diagnosis was a defining moment,” she reflects. “Fortunately, I had the support of my mother and a close circle of friends to help me navigate this new chapter.”

Inspired by her experiences, Michella co-founded the DR Family Foundation with her fiancé. This organization is dedicated to supporting families with children who have disabilities, providing educational funding and creating safe spaces for those in difficult situations.

“The DR Family Foundation embodies my commitment to giving back,” she explains. “We assist with school fees for children with special needs and are working on a project to establish a supportive home for children facing challenging family circumstances.”

Michella’s advocacy extends beyond her own story. She is dedicated to fostering a community where every child, regardless of their abilities or background, has access to support and opportunities.

“Every child deserves a place in society,” she insists. “We must unite to ensure they receive the resources and support necessary for their success.”

Through her work with the DR Family Foundation, Michella is making a meaningful impact, breaking down barriers, and championing inclusivity. Her journey from Paris to Sydney stands as a testament to her resilience and her dedication to effecting positive change.

“I’ve encountered numerous obstacles,” she acknowledges. “But they have shaped who I am today. I wouldn’t alter a thing about my journey.”
