No filter, authentic music is in, and J. Irja hits the mark with her latest controversial music video, Hate2SeeMeWin.

Bass-filled club beats, mindless lyrics, and attempts to fit into the status quo box have filled the mainstream music industry for years. Many independent artists struggled to make a name for themselves without censoring their identity, and music became mundane for many listeners. Gone were the days of the offensive, obscene Slim Shady; rappers started getting sued left and right, and so many people got scared to offend each other by speaking the truth. Listeners proclaimed over and over that they were exhausted from hearing the same type of music being released over and over. Then, the explosion of independent artists like Dax and Jelly Roll took the world by storm as their real, raw lyrics and stories of personal struggle catapulted them to the top. Now, people don’t think of a donut when they hear Jelly Roll; they think of the leader of the broken, the speaker of truth, and the unfiltered, unapologetic dynamic duo that he and his wife Bunnie Xo have grown to become. Speaking the truth and wearing his heart on his sleeve has made Jelly Roll a household name for a good reason.

Eminem has burst back onto the scene as Slim Shady, cosigning Jelly Roll as he remixed the Nashville, TN singer’s hit single “Save Me” on his most recent release, The Death of Slim Shady: Coup de Grace. Music lovers around the globe are reawakened and seem to have been waiting for this reset of the industry as a whole, where lyrics and authenticity are beginning to take center stage once again. Social media has been sent into a frenzy, with listeners in every genre gravitating toward the artists who are baring their souls for the world to see.

Independent artists have been keeping it real for some time; they just weren’t having the success that more mainstream-sounding artists were. However, the industry is seeing an increasing number of independent artists collaborating with majors. Texas boasts its fair share of talent emerging in the music scene. One independent artist making noise in the Dallas area who is no stranger to the spotlight is J. Irja. After taking a brief hiatus from releasing music, this fire-spitting Finnish-Canadian gypsy could be poised to make a serious comeback in the last half of this year, beginning with her edgy new drop, Hate2SeeMeWin.

Numbers are already climbing on the new release, which some say is a diss track. Others speculate that Hate2SeeMeWin may be a generalized testament to her renewed inner strength after bouncing back from the tumultuous journey she had come up with throughout her life. (Only real J. Irja fans will catch that reference). Whether J. Irja is calling out someone specific or not, this heated single is gaining traction from many listeners, saying how much they can relate to her angst.

It’s an age-old saying that everything happens at the right time, and with her extensive repertoire that preceded this heavy drop, it hasn’t been this 5’0 powerhouse’s time yet. We’ve seen her open up for amazing artists like Jelly Roll and Tech N9ne and collaborate with Benny the Butcher, Twista, and so many others. Avid listeners hope the upcoming single “Boulevard Hustle” with Project Pat is the track she needs to get the push to the next level she deserves. Regardless of what happens, no one can deny J. Irja’s raw talent and amazing resilience.
