Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has released The Mighty Oaks, a feature sports documentary now available for rent or purchase across North American digital HD internet, DVD, cable, and satellite platforms starting December 9, 2025.
Set against the backdrop of Morgan Hill, California, the documentary tells the inspiring story of how a high school lacrosse program, built from the ground up by parents and athletes, grew into a legacy that touched countless lives. This heartwarming film is more than just about sports—it delves into themes of identity, grief, leadership, and resilience. The Mighty Oaks captures the emotional journey of the Live Oak High School boys’ lacrosse team as they chase one final title in 2024.
A Story of Passion and Community

The heart of The Mighty Oaks lies in the community that came together to support a sport that wasn’t widely known in the area. What began as a dream in 2015, when Brad Ledwith and a group of parents started the lacrosse program, evolved into a thriving boys’ and girls’ varsity program. The documentary chronicles the journey of these athletes and coaches, many of whom were foundational in building the program, as they strive to leave a lasting impact on their team and their community.
The Mighty Oaks focuses on the players’ powerful personal stories. One athlete, inspired by his adoption, plays with courage and determination. Another dedicates his play to his late brother, honoring his memory on the field. Coaches, who also played crucial roles in establishing the program, face the ongoing challenge of balancing competitiveness with compassion. The film showcases not just the triumphs on the field but the personal growth and life lessons learned along the way.
Brad Ledwith, the executive producer of The Mighty Oaks, reflected on the documentary’s significance, saying, “This film captures what happens when you give young people something to believe in—they don’t just build a team, they build character. As a founder, coach, and father to two of these athletes, I’m proud audiences will see the heart and resilience that make Morgan Hill lacrosse special.”
Behind the Film
Directed by Brendan Harty, The Mighty Oaks takes an intimate look at the lives of the athletes and their journey through the 2024 season. Co-written by Harty and Erik Swanson, the documentary reflects on the dedication and commitment required to build something meaningful. The film is co-produced by Harty, Ledwith, and Swanson. It features interviews with key figures involved in the program, including Brad Ledwith, Nolan Ledwith, Ben Ledwith, Kenyen Castro, Gavin Herr, and Tanner Holeman.
The documentary highlights the emotional and physical challenges that the athletes and coaches face as they strive for excellence. It also captures the community’s spirit and the unique culture of lacrosse in Morgan Hill.
For Brad Ledwith, this project was a labor of love, not just as a producer but as a father and coach. “The Mighty Oaks started as a dream in our backyards and grew into something that changed our community,” said Ledwith. “It’s incredible to see how a simple idea has blossomed into something much bigger than we ever imagined.”

Brad Ledwith is the executive producer of The Mighty Oaks and is known as the godfather of Morgan Hill lacrosse. In 2015, when his twin sons became interested in lacrosse, Ledwith took matters into his own hands. Instead of traveling to San Jose for practices, he helped establish the first lacrosse programs for both boys and girls in Morgan Hill. His personal investment in the sport and his community led him to document the journey, eventually resulting in the film The Mighty Oaks.
Ledwith is also the founder of Ledwith Financial Wealth Management and works as an LPL Financial Advisor. His passion for lacrosse and his community runs deep, and this documentary serves as a tribute to the hard work and dedication that went into building the sport in Morgan Hill.
