Netflix is revisiting one of the most widely discussed disappearance cases in modern history with its upcoming three-part documentary series centered on Natalee Holloway, and actor Eliott Nazarian is among the performers appearing in the project’s dramatized reenactments.
The upcoming series, directed by Dani Sloane and Matthew Galkin, explores the 2005 disappearance of Holloway during a graduation trip to Aruba, a case that drew international media attention and remained unresolved for years. According to Netflix, the series will feature interviews, archival material, and previously unreleased audio connected to the investigation and Holloway’s family.
Nazarian portrays one of the figures connected to the case in reenactment sequences filmed in Los Angeles. Production on the project took place over the course of a weeklong shoot and included scenes recreating moments tied to the investigation, including driving sequences and interrogation scenes. Multiple actors were brought in to help reconstruct events connected to the timeline surrounding Holloway’s disappearance and the investigation that followed.
While the documentary itself centers on the real-life events surrounding Holloway’s disappearance and the years-long aftermath that followed, the reenactment portions were designed to visually support key elements of the timeline presented throughout the series. The production combines documentary storytelling with cinematic recreations intended to place viewers closer to the atmosphere and tension surrounding the case as it unfolded.
Nazarian said he approached the role carefully given the real-world subject matter involved.
“With projects like this, you’re dealing with a story that affected real people and families,” he said. “I tried to approach the material respectfully and stay grounded in the reality of the case.”
The actor added that he spent time researching the events surrounding the investigation before filming, revisiting reporting on the case and familiarizing himself with the broader timeline in order to better understand the context surrounding the role. According to Nazarian, that preparation helped shape his approach to the reenactment scenes and the tone of his performance during production.
The Natalee Holloway case became one of the most heavily covered criminal investigations of the 2000s after the Alabama teenager disappeared while visiting Aruba in May 2005 as part of a high school graduation trip. Over the years, the case generated widespread international media coverage, multiple investigations, and extensive public speculation. In 2023, Joran van der Sloot, long considered the primary suspect in the case, admitted to killing Holloway as part of a plea agreement connected to extortion and wire fraud charges.
Netflix has described the upcoming series as a definitive retelling of the case from the perspective of those closest to Holloway, including family members, investigators, and others directly connected to the events. The streamer has also stated that the project will include never-before-seen footage and previously unreleased recordings tied to the investigation.
For Nazarian, the project marks another entry in a growing list of television and streaming appearances. His recent credits include roles on Dr. Odyssey and the Tubi true crime series I Met My Murderer Online, as well as appearances in a number of digital and streaming productions. Outside of scripted television, he has also appeared in national commercial campaigns, including work for Lucid Motors.
Nazarian has increasingly found himself drawn toward dramatic and crime-based projects, a genre that continues to dominate the streaming landscape as audiences show ongoing interest in documentary storytelling and limited true crime series. Industry interest in true crime programming has remained strong in recent years, particularly on streaming platforms, where documentary series and dramatized investigative projects continue to attract large audiences worldwide.
The Holloway project is produced by Story Syndicate, with executive producers including Liz Garbus, Dan Cogan, Jon Bardin, Dani Sloane, and Tommy Coriale. Netflix has not yet announced an official premiere date for the series.
