The newest social media platform TikTok has exploded in popularity in the past few months as more people flock to the channel to post all kinds of videos. Among the plethora of content now available on the platform, that of social media personality Gigi Robinson stands out. Apart from her comedic unboxing videos, the social media content creator uses her reach to spread an altruistic message of self-confidence among youth facing struggle with self-image problems.
Gabrielle “Gigi” Robinson has made a name for herself as a body image advocate across her social media platforms (@itsgigirobinson). She knows the struggle of facing body dysmorphia all too well, and she also has suffered from several rare chronic illnesses, including Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, all of which significantly impact her day to day life.
“I always knew that I was a creative person, and I would use my art to make a change in the world, but my main goal is to help others,” shares Gigi Robinson. “It breaks my heart, knowing so many young kids are consuming unattainable images and videos, so it makes me want to work harder to break that pattern with them.” To date, the TikTok star has over 150,000 followers across all her social media accounts and gains over a million impressions monthly with her content.
Gigi is no rookie to the TikTok marketing space. Although she joined the platform in 2019, she was scouted to become a TikTok Campus Ambassador for her college, the University of Southern California, because of her previous roles as a creative marketer and brand agent for other notable companies. In a year, she has been committed to building her online community on TikTok and other social media platforms, directing and producing content that many viewers find entertaining, valuable, and inspiring.
Gigi Robinson made headlines as of late after getting picked up by premiere talent agency Viral Nation, a representation firm for social media influencers, authors, and actors that currently work with some of the most notable brands today. “My team at Viral Nation is closely aligned with my interests and it feels like the perfect next step in my career, as I navigate my life as a creator while in grad school,” Gigi said about the recent news. Viral Nation represents social media influencers, authors, and actors from its offices in Los Angeles and Ontario. The agency has a multichannel network that works to drive revenue, increase brand partnerships, and growth for all digital talent. Gigi will continue to work on brand partnerships in photography and short-form videos with brands that fall under the clean beauty, plant-based lifestyle and inclusive sizing industries.
The twenty-two-year-old has over ten years of experience as a photographer and recently graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Design, and Photography and, more recently, has decided to continue her education to receive her Masters of Science, in Integrated Design, Business and Technology at USC as well.
Recently, Gigi published a book that details her journey with her chronic illness through photographic imagery. The book takes readers on a journey that depicts what life managing multiple chronic illnesses looks like, in hopes that it would break stigmas surrounding invisible conditions. The book has since drawn the attention of a major Los Angeles hospital, which picked up the title for some of its creative programs.
She is currently, actively working on confronting the preconceived notions of body image and the standards that are rampant in many advertisements. As a photographer, she has significant experience with posing, lighting, and editing, which inspires her to be fully transparent in the way she exposes it on her platforms. She has worked as a professional photographer, creative branding consultant, and has been known for her colorful and genuine sponsored brand content. She hopes to use her talent and skill as a photographer to battle the stereotyping and misconceptions around the romantic versions of the body that people consume across social media today.
Gigi Robinson has been a content creator for a variety of brands, including Abercrombie, Smashbox Cosmetics, Timberland, and TikTok, as a brand ambassador just to name a few. She has also partnered with St. Jude and the Ronald McDonald House to give back to organizations that she is connected to personally in the medical field. She plans on continuing to partner with brands that align closely to her values which are authenticity, clean ingredients, commitment to change, and representation of diverse bodies. And it doesn’t stop there. Robinson shares, “I’m currently working on expanding my photographic portfolio by modeling for major brands and showcasing my body as is, not retouched or edited. Next year, I’m hoping to explore opportunities within fashion, grow my online community, continue to develop a voice as an artist, and pursue my philanthropic interests further.”
