After recognizing the lack of services in Mozambique’s transport industry, Manisha Pratapsinh, a civil construction machinery specialist turned entrepreneur, didn’t waste any time grabbing the opportunity to establish a bus company to meet public demand. She is now a shining example of how anyone with tenacity and determination to make a difference can achieve their goals and help communities in the long run. Many others are now looking to Manisha for inspiration for establishing thriving companies in high-demand sectors like transportation.
Here’s how she did it:
- Identify the market
While working in civil construction, Manisha had to transport materials from one place to another. It’s where she saw how difficult it is to commute or acquire private transportation, particularly in the rural areas of Mozambique.
After a phone call with her partners discussing the lack of services, she took on the challenge of establishing a bus company to meet the commuters’ demands.
“Not everyone has the means to have private transportation. It was a way to meet the needs of people in rural areas regarding their jobs,” she said.
Before the wheels were in motion, Manisha took extra precautions by analyzing market trends and identifying areas that needed her bus company’s attention. Moreover, she considered some suggestions or advice from trusted individuals in foreign countries. It helped her expand her perspectives and learn how to improve her business according to global standards.
- Involve the community
Many businesses thrive long-term because of their impact on society. They often employ locals from the community to share their insights and provide a grassroots perspective that empowers everyone toward growth and development.
In Manisha’s case, she employed her fellow Mozambicans because they knew best about the country’s roads and regulations.
“All my employees are from my country, as the unemployment rate in Mozambique is 25 percent, and my goal is to help the community,” she shared.
Speaking of community, Manisha also firmly believes in women’s empowerment as she experienced how uplifting it is.
“For a long time, I hid my business side out of fear of what people might say and judge me since it’s an area dominated by men.
Until circumstances in life led me to strong women who encouraged me to talk more about Manisha, the businesswoman,” the Mozambican entrepreneur shared.
She now spreads the same message to other women fighting for their place in society and chasing their dreams.
- Have the proper core values
Establishing a business is one thing, but maintaining it is entirely different. For this, it’s vital to have the proper morals to help make sound decisions in the future.
Manisha lets humility, commitment, honesty, and leadership guide her daily.
Lastly, she finds a balance between work and her personal life so everything she does will remain meaningful. Although difficult, she owes it to herself and the people she helps to keep her purpose alive.
“I always prioritize God and my family, and then my business. I do my best to balance everything, but it’s not always easy; life is made of sacrifices,” she said.
Manisha Pratapsinh is known for identifying market needs and taking decisive action. By diligently analyzing market trends and seeking advice from trusted sources, Manisha ensured that her venture was not only viable but also positioned for sustainable growth in line with global standards.
Furthermore, Manisha’s approach emphasizes the importance of community involvement in business endeavors recognizing the value of local knowledge and expertise. Through her actions and leadership, Manisha exemplifies the transformative potential of businesses that prioritize social impact and community engagement, paving the way for inclusive growth and sustainable development in Mozambique and beyond.
