S.J. Dub on Living His Own Truth and Speaking Volumes through Music

It’s not easy to live according to your unique truth nowadays, with social media and other mainstream platforms constantly drowning us with different identities and ideas. Yet even in a world filled with indoctrination and psychological tricks, artist S.J. Dub speaks on the importance of being your own person and exemplifies that most through his life and music.

Stephen Jacquel Watt, or most popularly known by his stage name S.J. Dub, is a hip-hop artist from Asbury Park, New Jersey. He’s a highly explosive artist who constantly delivers tracks that bring something fresh and unexpected with every stanza. Dub has been into music for the better portion of his life, starting at the age of fourteen and carrying his passion for music throughout most of his early life.

S.J. Dub first entered professional music back in 2018 when he released his first album, Born a Legend, which included fourteen heavy-hitting tracks, including “Letter to My City,” “Give Me the Bank,” “Doing the Most,” “Minute Maide,” “Make You Feel,” “Out the Way,” and many others. He would also release another album that year entitled “God Gotta Plan for Me,” which had eleven tracks.

In 2019, S.J. Dubb put out another album, Give Me a Chance, and a single entitled “Purpose,” which would ultimately solidify his place on streaming platforms and help get the word out about his music. Then 2020 happened, and the pandemic put his music on a pause for a while as he would, along with many others, struggle through the turmoil of what was the most challenging year of this generation.

But then S. J. returned with a vengeance in 2021, releasing a slew of songs, which would help him regain momentum. First, he released an eight-track mixtape entitled I’m the Cure, which delivered songs like “Changes,” “Playgun,” “Different,” and many others. His most recent album, July 1st, 1990, delivers another set of supercharged tracks that speak volumes to people while also providing an entertainment experience that surpasses most of his life’s work, showing he’s only getting better with time.

Apart from being a prolific songwriter who’s always creating, S.J. Dub is also an inspirational character. His life story told through his music has impacted many, given that most relate with his struggles and principles, creating a bond with S.J. and his music. The hip-hop artist hopes that his music would only keep reaching those who face feelings of hopelessness and provide a form of solace and motivation to keep going despite life’s detours and dead ends.

Primarily due to the past year’s crises, S.J. Dub hasn’t played many shows but looks forward to traveling around the country to perform in front of live crowds very soon. His music is now also available on YouTube and Spotify as Dub looks to reach a wider audience through digital platforms.

S.J. continues to look towards his fiancee and kids as a source of inspiration as he continues to climb up the ladder of music success and dedicate all that he is to his one true passion, which is music. Listen to his tracks and follow the artist by visiting S.J. Dubb on Spotify and Instagram.
