One of the greatest American rock bands of all time, Saving Abel, has been adored by fans all over the world. Offering a glimpse into the band’s storied performances, former drummer Steven Pulley shares one of the proudest moments of his entire career. Landing the drummer gig for one of America’s most triumphant rock bands, Steven pulls out all the stops to share the excitement he felt on the night that he first performed alongside his former bandmates.
In December 2013, Steven Pulley joined Saving Abel with former frontman Scotty Austin. On that fateful day, Steven fondly remembers the thrill of finally making it to the big leagues and joining one of America’s most prestigious rock groups. “We only had two rehearsals to run through everything with the rest of the band, and off we went. It was do or die,” shared Steven.
With nothing but a dream to carry him through, Steven Pulley officially landed the gig with Saving Abel, staying with the band for eight years from 2013 until his departure in 2021. His time with the band was nothing short of legendary, but what most fans don’t realize is how he actually started pursuing a career in music.
Interestingly enough, Steven Pulley was actually born totally deaf in his left ear. The circumstances were rough, especially for a promising musician, but Steven never let his disability faze him from his passion for music. “I honestly didn’t know any better. Having one ear source was all I knew, and I went with it because I had no choice,” he recalled.
Due to his condition, it’s safe to say that his early life proved to be much harder than anyone else’s. Throughout his formative years, he would have to learn how to speak and communicate with others using only his good ear. At the age of 26, he finally received the surgery he needed and went on to pursue his dreams of music stardom.
Upon landing the gig with Saving Abel, Steven Pulley knew this was his chance to show the world his true talents. So, studying day and night, he honed his craft to put out the most important show of his life. Moreover, his first show with the band just happened to be at the world-famous Machine Shop Concert Lounge in Flint, Michigan.
It was a rock and roll baptism by fire. One could only imagine how Steven Pulley must have felt performing at a sold-out show in one of America’s most renowned venues for the first time ever in his entire life, adding to the fact that he did it alongside the rock and roll legends of Saving Abel. The pressure was off the charts.
Like many good stories, Steven Pulley managed to knock it out of the park. This was the moment that cemented his legacy as the new drummer for the band, putting him on the map as one of rock and roll’s greatest drummers. “The amount of relief I felt walking on and off that stage as the new drummer for Saving Abel was one of my proudest moments,” he shared.
Nowadays, Steven Pulley is the drummer for former Saving Abel frontman Scotty Austin who recently left the band to pursue a solo career. Scotty Austin recently released his latest single, “Money,” on Black Friday.
Currently, the talented frontman has been gearing up for his second national tour alongside his new band. Steven Pulley will join Scotty Austin for the tour, bringing the same level of gravitas they’ve always been known for.
