Music is a full-blown business enterprise that many go into as an escape from poverty and a way to better their financial situation and capabilities. Still, for people like Dovahh who’s real name is DeAndre Mckenzie, music comes from the heart as he is popularly known. He puts his reality, feelings, and emotions into his music and hopes to touch a few lives with his songs. Dovahh’s love for music came from his family. His mother was a singer in a local church, his father was a DJ, and his two older brothers are music producers in the making.
Born in Queens, Dovahh is only 18 years old, and he started making music in 2017 after he lost his mother to the cold hands of death. It was at his mother’s funeral that he made a promise to better himself. Since going professional, he has tried to keep to that promise by making his music career his utmost priority. He hopes to make as much difference as possible with his music and his lifestyle, and so far, he believes he is off to a good start and can only get better with time and as he grows in his music career.
Dovahh decided to pursue music to express himself and say the things he cannot say and connect with others. He wants to let people know that they are not alone in their problems and help them move forward regardless of their situation. Music for Dovahh comes from a natural place. XXXTentacion, Lil Peep, Juice WRLD, Dee Swxndle, AJ Kartier, Jsk8tes, etc., are some of his musical influences. Dovahh is continuously looking to improve his craft and expand his genre. He would also want to help people in the way Juice WRLD and XXXTentacion helped him.
Dovahh considers his music unique because he can do multiple music genres, and he is continually looking to expand. He says his music is supposed to be something everyone finds relatable to something they have experienced. And he feels he could help people with his music the same way music helped him. So far, Dovahh has the following singles to his credit, “Jackie” produced by Yeahitis, “Hesitate” feat. Jsk8tes & Dee Swxndle, “Mona Lisa” fest Crossout Scoob & AJ to mention a few.
On his motivation, he said, “My family and friends motivated me. I have seen the way they didn’t give up on their dreams. They showed me the process is slow but worth it.” And in five years, he sees himself giving back to the community by providing support to those in need.
Dovahh wants to show readers and his fans alike that it is okay to use their talent, craft, and business to help other people in need or hanging desperately to remain happy, sane, and alive. Having been in a terrible state at some point in his life, Dovahh believes the best way to give back to his community is by being the light for others and showing them they can get out of any situation they find themselves, only if they put in the work.
