This 2021, Rosco P is taking no prisoners. Following the release of his tracks “Lights (feat. Babys World)” and “Scola,” the rising music artist is preparing to unveil yet another smash hit on July 12.
Born and raised in Lansing, Michigan, to a family of musicians, Marcus Duane Jones or Rosco P is an independent hip-hop artist renowned for his hard-hitting beats and impressive vocal range. Surrounded by virtuosos, Rosco P developed an interest in the field from a very young age.
“My uncle is a professional jazz musician, so I’d always listen to stories about his weekend gigs as a child at Sunday dinners,” he shared. The anecdotes stirred something within him, and it did not take long before Rosco P mapped out a future in the industry, dreaming about the day he would share his sound to the world.
However, despite his family’s influence, what pushed Rosco P to realize his dreams was his teacher. “My drive to pursue creating music began with family, but the initial flame got its light from a band teacher who gave me a program to get started on my own,” he said.
His instructor’s belief emboldened him to trek his envisioned map and become a star who can light the way for those after him. So, he began to experiment with genres. An extensive surf on the Internet led him to hip hop and the discographies of well-loved musicians such as Travis Scott and The Weeknd.
Taking inspiration from high-caliber professionals, Rosco P began cultivating a signature sound where Alternative Trap meets Punk Rock. Topped with tongue-in-cheek lyrics delivered in smooth cadence, the then-fresh-faced artist’s debut track was a gift to the ear.
In 2015, he released “Blue Benjamins.” The seamlessly mixed single built the foundation for Rosco P’s growing fanbase and catapulted him to industrial attention. With executives and top personalities eyeing him, it did not take long before Rosco P was invited onstage.
With a magnetic presence and energy that commands a crowd of thousands, Rosco P was a firecracker. Whether on radio performances or a small run with Kodie Shane, everywhere he performed, the audience was left enraptured and asking for more. In 2018, Rosco P answered their demand with the singles “Flxn,” “Pray,” and “Merry Go.”
At that point, his reputation in the business had already sent him to studios with Molly Brazy, Baby’s World, Lil Jairmy, Loudiene, Loso Loaded, Kodie Shane, Waka Flocka, Big Sean, A$AP Rocky, and producers Big Emm and Kaz Drumatik—all of whom helped Rosco fP perfect his craft and expand his expertise.
Last 2020, the artist surprised fans with his refined, entrancing sound on the subsequently-released tracks “Gelato,” “C’est la Vie,” “Dark Side,” “Details,” and “Ravens.” Rosco P had reverse-engineered the music process and supervised his music production together with a brilliant team.
This year, the artist decided to take things further. After welcoming 2021 with a hard-hitting EP and single, Rosco P will be releasing a new banger entitled D.R.U.G’s on July 12. The EP, produced entirely by Pianogotkeys and an acronym for “Dear Rager’s Ur Gods,” will carry five genre-defying songs of varying themes.
“I’m showing full vocal range on this project, whereas in previous projects, I’ve been a bit more reserved,” the multi-talented creative hinted. “It features Lil Jairmy, who’s currently a rising name out of Houston, Texas, signed to 4PF.”
As the release date draws nearer, Rosco P’s fans worldwide are at the edge of their seats—though, if the artist’s previous discography is any indication, D.R.U.G’s is a definite chart-topper.
