In these trying times, everyone just needs a good laugh. Society as a whole has been seeing countless issues being brought up without any concrete solutions that would address them. Yet, in spite of it all, there is the beauty of humor that steadily shines through despite these dark days; comedy remains to be a beaming light at the end of the tunnel. Oscar P is a beacon of this so-called light known as comedy, and he is shining brighter than ever.
Oscar P got his start in comedy in Memphis, Tennessee. In November of 2012, he began doing open-mic gigs at a small bar and grill by the name of Loose Goose. Eventually, he would work his way up and do open mics at the Funny Bone, where he met actor and comedian Lester Bibbs. Oscar quickly became a host at the club until Chuckles Comedy House opened up.
The esteemed comedian is known for his hard-hitting jokes and is extremely self-aware and societally conscious.
“I think the reason why we as a society are extremely sensitive is that the customer requests or demands to tolerate things that are not morally acceptable by traditions or plain ethics,” shared Oscar P. “Comedians have to be the beaming light or the dark tunnel to expose the humor in this thing called life. I feel that my brand of comedy confronts issues, as well as heals and hurts at the same time,” he added.
In these changing times, where comedy seems to have taken a hit, Oscar P remains to be one of the few comics who is constantly pushing the boundaries and challenging the norm, questioning those in control and influencing the world. Much of his success can be attributed to his pristine work ethic, which is a character trait that is rooted in a strong foundation from when he was young.
“The best lesson my father taught me was to go to work. He always woke me up early between 5:30 am, and 6:00 am every morning and said get out of bed and go to work,” recalled Oscar. “No matter what the situation or what I’m going through, I hear his voice saying, ‘Oscar, get up and go to work.’ I will be the best I can be because I am going to go to work.”
Oscar P has been bringing laughter everywhere he goes. He takes his life situations from being a family man and a business owner and turns it into comedy that people can relate to in their daily lives. His family has always motivated him to pursue success. He attributes much of his inspiration and drive to his family.
“My wife and kids have pushed me to follow my dreams,” said Oscar P.
In the near future, Oscar P plans to continue building his brand and creating content for television. He is focused on making it to the big stage, giving audiences laughter for their soul. Dubbed as the polite jerk, Oscar P finds humor in almost everything, adding a little spice of rudeness to his jokes that go along with his brand.
