Something unexpected is arriving in Bel Air this weekend. On August 16, Bali-born fashion label Sofi&Co Family will step onto the Los Angeles Swim Week stage for the first time, bringing with it ten carefully selected looks, a conceptual performance, masks, fashion insiders, creators, and influencers. Some of the evening’s most anticipated guests are deliberately being kept under wraps until the event, adding an element of mystery to a presentation titled “The Other Side of Fear.”

For founder Sofiia Shcherbakova, that mystery fits naturally into the world she has created around Sofi&Co Family. The label has never positioned itself as clothing for women who want to disappear into a room. Its aesthetic is sensual, feminine and unapologetically visible, built around women who travel, experiment, take risks and are comfortable attracting attention. Its Los Angeles debut takes that philosophy one step further. This time, the clothes are not simply meant to be seen. They are being used to tell a story.

Ten Looks, One Question

What would you do if you weren’t afraid? That question forms the emotional center of “The Other Side of Fear,” which combines swimwear, resortwear, and activewear across ten looks. Rather than treating those looks as separate fashion categories, the presentation creates a progression from protection toward freedom. Masks will appear as a visual representation of the identities people construct for the outside world. The confident version. The successful version. The perfect version. The version that never appears frightened.

In Sofi&Co Family’s interpretation, those identities are not necessarily false. Sometimes they are armor created to survive expectations, judgment, and uncertainty. But eventually, armor can become heavy. The show asks what happens when a woman decides she no longer needs it. It is a surprisingly psychological concept for a Swim Week presentation, and that may be exactly what separates it from the endless stream of beautiful bodies and beautiful locations traditionally associated with resort fashion.

A Brand With a Taste for Heights

There is another reason the concept of fear feels particularly appropriate. Sofi&Co Family already has one American story that sounds almost too cinematic to be real. Before its official Los Angeles runway debut, one of the brand’s pieces found its way to the top of perhaps the most famous skyscraper in New York.

An Urban climber wore a Sofi&Co Family Proposal Catsuit during her Empire State Building experience, an extraordinary adventure that culminated in a marriage proposal high above Manhattan. For most fashion brands, the Empire State Building might serve as a backdrop for a campaign. For Sofi&Co Family, somebody actually climbed it wearing the brand. That distinction says a surprising amount about the kind of woman the label increasingly represents: she is not standing at the bottom looking up. She is already on her way to the top.

Then Came Los Angeles

Los Angeles represents an intentional chapter for a label that built its following far from any American runway. The label’s own concept and runway presentation are now joined by a growing community surrounding it. The August 16 show in Bel Air is expected to bring together models, fashion professionals, media figures, digital creators and influencers, including personalities with significant online audiences.

Not every name is being announced in advance, and that secrecy gives the presentation the feeling of an emerging fashion moment rather than a conventional product launch. In Los Angeles, a city where who walks into a room can become almost as interesting as what happens inside it, a little mystery feels appropriate. Yet the center of attention remains the collection itself and the philosophy behind it.

From Bali to Bel Air

Sofi&Co Family was developed by Shcherbakova in Bali, where the brand also established a retail presence. It is difficult to separate the label entirely from the environment in which it grew. Bali attracts people from around the world who are often in periods of transition, people traveling, creating, starting over or searching for a different way to live. Reinvention is almost built into the place.

The brand’s clothing reflects that fluidity. Swimwear crosses into resortwear, activewear becomes part of an everyday wardrobe, and pieces are intended to move between environments rather than wait in a closet for one specific occasion. Los Angeles, strangely enough, shares some of that DNA. People also come here to reinvent themselves. They simply tend to do it with more cameras around.

Fashion for Women Who Refuse to Whisper

Fashion has spent the past several years fascinated with restraint: quiet luxury, invisible logos, perfect neutrals and wardrobes designed to suggest that the wearer has absolutely nothing to prove. Sofi&Co Family belongs to another conversation. This is fashion for a woman who does not necessarily want to whisper.

She can be glamorous and sensual. She can take up space, be photographed, change her mind, travel across the world, and reinvent herself. She can wear a catsuit in Bali or a resort set on the other side of the world. There is something refreshing about a brand embracing that woman without apologizing for her visibility. “The Other Side of Fear” simply adds another dimension to her story, because being fearless does not mean never experiencing fear. Sometimes the most interesting women are frightened and do it anyway.

What Happens Next

When the first model enters the presentation in Bel Air on August 16, Sofi&Co Family will officially move into a new chapter. Ten looks will introduce Los Angeles to the brand’s universe, masks will become part of the visual story, guests will watch, photograph and share the experience, and some of the personalities currently being kept secret will finally walk through the door.

Underneath the social-media spectacle, however, is a remarkably straightforward idea. The brand began on an island, grew through the women who chose to wear it, and now it is arriving in Bel Air. For a collection about crossing the boundary between fear and possibility, the journey itself echoes the message on the runway.

After Los Angeles, the question may no longer be whether Sofi&Co Family is willing to take risks. It may simply be where the brand decides to go next.
