Introducing LAZYRAVE, a Collaboration Between Four Talented Music Making Individuals

The music industry has seen time and time again the coming together of talented musicians to create a powerhouse band unlike any other. These superbands have become quite the rage, combining the many musical talents of a single individual into a completely different beast giving rise to a cathartic blend of musical stylings. LAZYRAVE is a band that consists of four talented musicians who have come together to create a grungy, dreamy, and euphoric band that stands out from the rest.

LAZYRAVE consists of Dan Clark, the frontman; Ben Kindlan, the drummer; Mark “Clem” Clemmett, the producer; and Pete Cheyne, the tech engineer. Both Dan and Ben hail from the rock and roll band called The Kush, collaborating with Clem and Pete to elevate their music to a much grander scale. LAZYRAVE is a seamless combination of their musical personalities, which is pretty evident with each song they put out.

LAZYRAVE is not bound by any genres. In fact, their music caters to listeners from all walks of life, from rave parties to afterparties and live shows. “We want to create a positive connection with everyone that listens to our music. We don’t stick to a manufactured formula. We try to blend our music across genres drawing from our collective experiences,” shared the band members.

The frontman, Dan Clark, initially developed his deep passion for music during his teenage years. He was captivated with everything electronic, most especially the drums, bass guitar, techno, and house music. However, he cites that Hip-Hop will always be his first love, reserving a special place in his heart for the beloved genre.

At 20 years old, Dan Clark joined The Kush as the frontman and lyricist of the powerhouse rock and roll band. Dan would find himself traveling all across the world for nine years with The Kush until they disbanded. The news left Dan extremely disappointed, carving out an existential void deep within him.

As luck would have it, he would soon bump into Mark “Clem” Clemmett during parties and festivals. In 2015, they did their first collaboration with the track “1up.” The rest, as they say, is history. “We both worked full-time jobs, so for the following few years, we would meet up once a week or twice a month or just whenever we could to knock up some new beats. As time went on, the tunes got bigger, and my craving for performing live was itching away,” Dan shared.

“Benny, the drummer from The Kush who had been living abroad for the past four years, had just returned to the UK. I caught up with him and said, ‘fancy this electronic band or what?’ As soon as I showed him the tunes, he was in the band.”

After the many serendipitous reunions,  LAZYRAVE was born. They quickly started brainstorming on how to reproduce their sound in a live setting, but as soon as they started getting gigs, the COVID-19 global pandemic hit. “Initially wounded by the momentum getting hit, we realized this was an opportunity to focus and grow our sound, and this is when Pete joined the band,” Clem explained. “We looked at what we had done and did a full rework and reboot of the live rig. Pete helped balance things out as Dan and Benny were less tech-oriented, and he brought fat synth bass to the table.”

During the global pandemic, LAZYRAVE continued cultivating their sound and studying how legendary bands like the Chemical Brothers set up their rig. “There was a huge mountain to climb to faithfully recreate the sound in a live environment. Creating a live rig for a multi-instrument electronic band is no joke. This was when I got involved, going deep into YouTube videos, watching how legends up their rig and reading articles on the seemingly endless ways how you can manipulate voltage. The learning curve was steep, but we persevered,” Pete explained.

Nowadays, LAZYRAVE has become one of the promising bands in the music industry, boasting significant numbers on massive music platforms such as Spotify. The band’s momentous musical journey is just beginning, and it’s exhilarating to see where their distinct and powerful sound will take them in the years to come.
