Amid the daily rain at the 76th Cannes Film Festival, the luminary spotlight fell on a constellation of stars, gathered there to promote their cinematic endeavors. All along the prestigious Croissette, the red carpets were blooming like beautiful flowers. The festival’s grand return after three restrictive years was well-received by eager audiences.

One intriguing presence at the festival was Alexandra Vino, a burgeoning indie filmmaker recognized for her short film “Green Kola.” She took a moment to share her favorite films and looks from the festival’s red carpet.

When asked about who holds the reins of the Cannes Film Festival, Vino mentioned Thierry Fremaux, a renowned French film critic who ensures the festival retains its old-school Hollywood charm. In his hands, the festival becomes a black-tie event, transporting participants back in time.

Vino stressed the significance of the festival for indie filmmakers. A film’s favorable reception at the festival can be a powerful catalyst for securing distributors and generating positive buzz before its official release.

Among the films she had enjoyed, Vino singled out “Jeanne Du Barry,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” and “Indiana Jones” as her favorites. Her primary objective at the festival was not only to connect with her clients from her animation work on children’s movies but also to showcase her in-progress indie project, “Hollywood Movie,” — a dark comedy centered around an actor pursuing an Oscar.

The filmmaker further highlighted the collective effort involved in preparing for awards shows. A team of professionals is behind the polished, red-carpet-ready looks, and Vino took a moment to applaud her team at Mephistopheles for their remarkable work in selecting the perfect outfit for each occasion. She extended her gratitude to Greg Alexander and Veronique Droulez, whose tireless efforts were integral to her Cannes appearance.

In terms of fashion, Vino praised Elle Fanning, who was dressed in McQueen, and Winnie Harlow, donning Jean Paul Gaultier, for their standout appearances.

As for her 2023 goals, Vino aims to complete her film and venture deeper into the realm of comedies. She explained the deceptive complexity of comedy, stating that it might appear effortless, but in reality, it’s far from easy. She referenced her success at the Paris International Film Festival, where she won an award for her comedic short “Green Kola.” Vino has held a fondness for comedies since her early years.

With her proven prowess in this genre, shown through her victory at the Paris International Film Festival for “Green Kola,” there is no doubt that she will succeed in her ambitions. To her, it’s clear that making films isn’t just a one-person job but a collective effort, a sentiment she’s eager to carry forward in her future projects. Alexandra signs off with an invitation to meet again at the movies, promising more of her innovative and impressive works.
